From Fashion Designer to Founder of Breast Dressed
With a background in fashion design, I've spent the past 14 years working as a ladieswear designer for various suppliers and brands. My career took me to Hong Kong for six years, but upon returning to the UK, I sought a new challenge—something meaningful yet aligned with my passion for fashion. During the first Covid lockdown, while on furlough, I seized the opportunity to create and launch Breast Dressed, a brand dedicated to stylish and sustainable breastfeeding clothes.
Navigating our Breastfeeding Journey
My breastfeeding experience was remarkably positive, despite the challenges of a traumatic birth and post-birth anxiety. Breastfeeding became a source of control and connection with my daughter. Thanks to an abundance of milk (my breasts started leaking at 28 weeks pregnant) and the support of skilled midwives and a doctor, my daughter latched well from the start.
However, I recognize that not all mothers receive the same support. I feel fortunate for the guidance I received, which set the stage for a successful breastfeeding journey.
I breastfed my daughter until she was 21 months old. Transitioning away from breastfeeding was difficult, but with gradual weaning and communication, my daughter adjusted well. Now, we enjoy better sleep, and my husband has the chance to participate in bedtime routines.

Breast Dressed: Supporting Moms with Sustainable Breastfeeding Fashion
Breast Dressed is about empowering moms throughout the motherhood journey. I aimed to create a sustainable brand that offers functional, comfortable, and stylish breastfeeding clothes. Our designs are versatile, made from premium sustainable fabrics, and intended to last beyond just nine months. The goal is to provide wearable options for all stages of pregnancy, breastfeeding, and beyond, moving away from the disposable nature of fast fashion maternity wear.
Top Style Tips for Nursing and Pumping Mothers
1. Layering with Strap Tops and T-Shirts: A strap top under a t-shirt allows you to lift the t-shirt and pull down the strap top, keeping your tummy covered. This combo works well with a jumper in winter.
2. Breast Dressed Ada Jumpsuit: This jumpsuit is flattering over the tummy and allows easy breastfeeding access by unbuttoning the shoulder without losing a strap.
3. Popper Front Pyjamas: Invest in a stylish pair of popper front pyjamas for those days when you want to stay comfortable but look presentable.
4. Breast Dressed Lucy Dresses: These dresses are perfect for feeling glamorous and put-together while providing easy breastfeeding access.
5. Denim Shirt Dress: Pair with a strap top for an easy-to-unbutton outfit that keeps you covered.
One Piece of Advice for New Mothers
Take your time. Motherhood is an immense journey, and I wish I had allowed myself to move more slowly and avoid the pressure to be constantly on the go. Embrace each moment and give yourself the grace to adjust at your own pace.
By sharing my experiences and insights, I hope to provide support and inspiration to other mothers navigating the complexities of breastfeeding and motherhood. At Breast Dressed, we are committed to making this journey a bit easier and more stylish for you.
